I wanted to blog about my experience in Vegas. As I mentioned in another post, I was a little nervous about going to Vegas alone (not about traveling alone because I’m used to that) but about being at a convention with no one to talk to. On the plane going to Vegas, I sat next to a super-nice woman who informed me that her sister was a photographer and was going to the convention as well! She was sitting in another part of the plane, so we met once we got to Vegas. I’m so glad that I met both of these women…they changed my entire experience (for the better).
On Sunday, once I got to the MGM Grand, I immediately had a class to attend and from there it didn’t stop. I attended many amazing classes and got to experience what I’m sure is the largest trade show for photographers in the US (perhaps the world). I heard this year that there were more professional photographers in one place than ever before. Over 12,000 of us and every single person I sat next to, stood in line next to, etc. I talked to. These people couldn’t have been nicer or more giving…every single one of them.
There was so much going on that I didn’t leave the hotel until Tuesday. After a lunch of sushi, I decided to get my hair cut in the salon in the hotel. It was pricey, but soooo worth it! After that I took a cab to Nordstrom’s and spent a ‘little’ money. I bought a bunch of stuff, including a fabulous pair of pink ruffled shoes (the ruffles are in leather) and they’ll be shipped to me any day now. I also got a little makeover at the Nars counter. I came back to the hotel, had an amazing dinner and then saw Ka at the MGM Grand. All in all, just a beautiful day that I’ll remember for a long time.
I took my camera, and in fact I was supposed to go to a shoot on the strip with some models in wedding dresses, but my class ran over, by a lot, and I didn’t want to leave it, so I missed the shoot. That’s ok. The only time I used my camera was when I was waiting for a cab outside of Norstrom’s…. and I snapped these 2 shots. For lugging my heavy camera around, this is all I got:

It’s great to be home, but I’m looking forward to next year already! Hopefully some of my local photog friends will come along.
