While I was in Cape May a few weekends ago with Alyssa and Victor (pix coming soon), we happened to walk by The Star (Motel, Inn, Coffee). It’s part of Congress Hall which is a landmark in Cape May. I wish I had a picture of The Star to show you, but trust me when I say it was lovely. I especially LOVED the motel—retro, painted bright yellow, and spotless. If you know me, you know I like things clean! The Star is at the perfect location for both shopping and the beach, so I’d highly recommend that you check it out. I’d definitely stay here and, in fact, I looked out online hoping to get a room in the motel for a weekend in June when Ethan has a tournament at the beach. Alas, there were no rooms in the motel to be had.

Oh my gosh. I really like to go to new places and take pictures. I travel and I LOVE the idea of travel, but to be honest travel isn’t easy for me. I HATE hotel rooms. I find them just sad. That being said, I was super excited to go to Toronto a few weeks ago for work. We’d have some time to walk around, I thought, and I could take some pix. Great. But the travel agent messed up and the closest we got to Toronto was the airport. Literally. These two shots were the only shots I took; both at the airport. So, while I can say I’ve been to Toronto, it technically isn’t true. I’ve been to the Toronto airport and some of the area surrounding it. Darn.

I took a business trip to Maine a few weeks ago, and did manage to get out early one morning and take a walk.

The leaves were just past their peak.

The tress had this cool lichen on them.

Early morning dew.

The colors were wonderful. More tomorrow.

Last Sunday Norman and Ethan had plans, and I didn’t, so I decided to drive to Sea Isle and walk on the beach. I put the top down on my car and away I went! The day was, literally, perfect.

Fluffy white clouds.

Lots and lots of open space.

Perfect for a walk.

Some shells here and there.

These people were gathering shells, I think, from the rocks.

Harris Crab House

Yesterday E and I took off for Harris Crab House in Graysonville MD (on the Eastern Shore of MD). It was a very easy trip, no traffic, nice roads, and we arrived just in time for lunch. Ethan had lobster.

Irene did absolutely no damage to this area. In fact, our server said it basically was ‘nothing’. Looks like Isabel, back in 2003, did do some damage. Trust me, if the water was as high as the mark indicated, the entire first floor of the restaurant and the parking lot would have been underwater.

We had a lovely table outside. Ethan was in the sun; I was in the shade.

The docks around the restaurant are great to walk around…

Oyster shells.

An outdoor bar. Something tells me that in a former life I would have enjoyed something like this! At 1pm in the afternoon, I was surprised to see how many people were in there drinking!

And, in this shot, the drawbridge is open to let boats through. What a lovely day E and I had on the Eastern Shore of MD!

Phoenix: Palms

Finally, one of my favorite things about Phoenix are the palm trees! If you know me, you’d know I’ve been asking Norman for years to get us a palm for our pool area….he just says they won’t grow in New Jersey. On my first night in Phoenix, it was starting to storm and the palm trees were swaying in the strange light….

Too bad the storm didn’t cool things down.

To continue on with my shots from Phoenix, I really like the plants that you find. Just around the hotel I found all of the following plants….

I love the texture on the bark of this mini-palm.

Love this shot.

While they look sharp, they weren’t sharp at all.

Ok, this one was sharp!

Not a plant, but the wall of a closed-up bookstore, called Bookstar, next door to the hotel.

And finally, the cactus in front of the hotel.

Part of the cactus was cut off and what remained looked like a star!

Phoenix: Landscape

I went to Phoenix last week for work, and I had some time on Monday early evening to drive up a mountain, (I can’t remember which one), to take a few shots. I was wearing work clothing and heels, so I didn’t get out of the car, but I did manage to get some landscapes. There was this great little neighborhood at the start of the mountain.

I just loved the rugged look of it all.

Imagine this were the view from your back yard!

These trees were the only things that seemed vibrant and were thriving in this climate.

I saw one lone cactus.

And then a couple more cacti was scattered here and there.

Trust me, it was HOT and very dry.

And here’s the neighborhood again on the way down. I saw a house for sale, but I thinking with a view like that, the house won’t come cheap!
